Why should we visit Phuket Butterfly Garden? |
| |
This is the first butterfly garden in Southern of Thailand. We can say it is the largest butterfly garden in Thailand and also the most authentic one. |
Where do butterflies in the garden come from? |
| |
You can feel relieved as all of the butterflies in our enclosure come from our own breeding department. The catch of outside butterflies is only for helping in breeding in order to avoid weakness from inbreeding.
In a month, we breed about 6,000-8,000 butterflies. The number varies from season to season. |
How long can butterflies live? |
| |
To complete the whole life cycle, butterflies mostly live about one and a half month. The average of each period of butterflies' life cycle is as follows:
Egg 4-5 days Pupa 7 -10 days
Caterpillar 15-20 days Adult 14-15 days
The larger butterflies will normally have a longer life cycle such as "The Golden Birdwing" or Troides aeacus thomsoni (Bates), which takes about 2 months to complete its life cycle. |
Do you have only butterflies in the garden? |
| |
Apart from butterflies, we have an insect exhibition which is called 'insect world'. This is the first insect exhibition of Thailand containing the stories about the origin of insects, the growth of insects, and some species' details.
The exhibition also contains a wide collection of local insect specimens; live amazing insects and their relatives are exhibit in the outdoor garden including stick insects, leaf insects, arachnids, mantis, and some beetles. |
How many butterflies do we have? How many species do we have? |
| |
As mentioned above, we normally breed about 6,000-8,000 butterflies a month. At a time of your visit, you will see about 20-30 species of our butterflies. |
